St. Matthias is one of more than 12,000 Stephen Ministry congregations worldwide. Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, one-to-one Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.
A Stephen Minister begins a caringrelationship when he or she is matched with an adult struggling through a difficult time in life—experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis. The Stephen Minister then meets with his/her care receiver weekly - to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support. The caring relationship lasts as long as the person feels the need for this care.
The very existence of the caring relationship itself is kept confidential. Specific practices protect both the care receiver and the Stephen Minister:
- Men are matched with men; women with women.
- A Stephen Minister provides care to one person at a time.
Monthly, Stephen Ministers meet with their leaders for supervision, support, and continuing education.
Training Classes To Become a Stephen Minister
Stephen Ministry will equip you, and our congregation will support you, so that you can show God's mercy, care, and compassion to another who is hurting. You will walk beside your care receiver, pray for him or her, and help him or her work through life's difficutlies.
Through this ministry God will bring forth new life and renewed faith in both your care receiver and in you as a Stephen Minister.
Is God Calling you to serve in this way??
