Community Ministries

"We Are The Hands and Feet of Christ"

We at St. Matthias' are blessed with an abundance of ways to serve God by serving his people.  This generous congregation donates time, talent and treasure in so many different ways.

Food Pantry. Thanks to the many generous donations of food from members of the congregation, as well as community churches and businesses; and in partnership with Feed More & CCHASM; the more than 40 volunteers who serve this ministry are able to distribute approximately 50,000 meals a year or more to members of the Midlothian/ Richmond area who would otherwise not have the food they need for themselves and their families!

The Micah Initiative.  Volunteers serve as mentors and classroom assistants at John B. Cary Elementary School.  We have donated classroom supplies, art supplies, and books, and have provided breakfasts, lunches and special snacks for the faculty.

Monthly Shelter Feeding.  The congregation provides bag lunches for four homeless shelters - Good Samaritan, Liberation Family Services, and Home Again's men's, and women's and children's shelters.

KAIROS.  Volunteers spend long weekends sharing God's love with those in prison.

Assisted Living Facilities.  Lay Eucharistic Visitors provide monthly Communion to 3 assisted living facilities in this area: Elmcroft, Bickford, and Sunrise.

Christmas Mother.  Every year St. Matthias' provides a generous Christmas to both families and the elderly.  Several parishioners serve on the county-wide board.

The cornerstone of Outreach at St. Matthias' is the Outreach Fund.  This is a separate pledge from which all monies go into the community to help those in need.

St, Matthias' is a loving and generous church.  Many of our members were attracted by our strong and vibrant Outreach Ministry.  We are, indeed, the hands and feet of Christ!  If you have any questions about giving your time, talent or treasure to any of our outreach venues please email This email address is being protected from spambots.
