“We are the hands and feet of Christ”
In response to ever-increasing need and to Christ’s mandate to feed the hungry, the St. Matthias Food Pantry provides food each week to needy families at Carver and John B. Cary Elementary Schools in Richmond, Chalkley Elementary School in Chesterfield, Greenfield Elementary School in Chesterfield and to families referred by CCHASM, and by the Central Virginia Food Bank (CVFB).
St. Matthias collects food donated from our congregation and by shopping at the Central Virginia Food Bank each week. Volunteers help stock the pantry, pack bags, shop at the CVFB, and deliver it to the schools as well as to those referred families who come directly to our church. The congregation has been overwhelmingly generous in bringing food donations, and our volunteers are fantastic!
The Pantry’s budget comes from the Church’s Outreach Commission as well as donations from the local community. This achievement was made possible by the generosity of the St Matthias congregation for their financial and food support and the more than 75 volunteers who weekly give countless hours of their time to help those in need. A special thanks to our many partners including grocery chains and other churches.
2018 St. Matthias Food Pantry provided food for:
A total of 58,735 meals for the year.
