Examples of all the programs and events we offer children & youth at St. Matthias during "normal times" are listed below. During this time of uncertainty and social distancing, we are challenged on what we can offer for our children and youth as we are not yet authorized to gather at this time. Please check back with us periodically for updates of when we will be able to resume getting together for fun and fellowship.
The Children & Youth Programs and Events include events for younger children grades K-5, as well as our youth in grades 6-12.
Events for children and their families have included movie nights, Easter egg hunts, Advent and Lent series, Christmas Pageants, visits to senior living centers, as well as VBS and participation in our youth Sundays. We are in the process of growing this portion of our offerings and look forward to adding more fun events.
The youth of St. Matthias are involved in a variety of activities including monthly community service projects and attending retreats at our diocesan retreat center - Camp Chanco. They serve as acolytes, Lay Eucharist Ministers, ushers and readers during our Sunday services. The youth also host our Shrove Tuesday pancake supper and Maundy Thursday agape feast as well as participate in the reading of the Passion on Palm Sunday.
In addition to all the special events mentioned, the youth meet every Sunday afternoon during the school year for youth group from 5:00-6:30 pm. Group games, team building, and faith-based activities are all a part of the program. And we serve up some great snacks!
The adults and families of St. Matthias value these activities and programs and consider them essential to the growth and formation of our future generations. They are highly supportive of all these events by sharing their time, talents and treasures.
