Community Resources

Commonwealth Catholic Charities has served in communities across Virginia for over a century, impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals over multiple generations. We believe that every person deserves a brighter future and we are honored to be a part of that journey each day.
Caritas offers a variety of housing services including shelter employment services, furniture bank and addiction recovery services.
Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry (CCHASM) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization providing emergency food pantry appointments (in person and through delivery) and utility financial assistance to area residents in Chesterfield County, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Prince George, Virginia.
At CCHASM, we work cooperatively with government and community agencies to care for the emergency needs of the citizens.
Housing Resource Line: Housing services can be confusing to navigate. The Housing Resource Line (HRL) provides a centralized access point to help connect Richmond-area residents to programs and services that will help address their housing needs. The HRL is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm.
Caring Closet: We have found that there is a lack of suitable, free, high-quality clothing, available to at-risk/vulnerable families in the community. Therefore, we provide consignment quality, FREE clothing, in a timely manner, in a supportive setting, as well as bags filled with necessities and comfort items.
Mercy Mall: A ministry offering FREE clothing, housewares, baby items, and more to individuals and families experiencing crisis situations.
Ministry Opportunities for the Food Pantry
In 2012 our pantry began serving about a dozen families with about the same number of ministers (volunteers). Today our pantry serves 75,000 meals a year with dozens of ministers making it all run smoothly. Our need for ministers is not limited to pantry operating hours. On most days during the week, there are ministers busy doing the behind-the-scenes duties required to meet the needs of our quests. Below are the ministry positions needed to make our pantry work.
We also welcome high school students and others who need community service hours.
If you would like more information about the ministry position(s) with our food pantry you can email our pantry at foodpantry@stmatmidlo.com.
Requirements for pantry volunteers: As required by our insurance provider and The Episcopal Church USA, all pantry volunteers must take a Safe Church training course and undergo a criminal background check before they begin working in our food pantry.
Please use the link below to signup to take your safe church training. As a pantry volunteer you will need to take the Universal Training. You have two options for take Safe Church in person or online. A schedule of in-person training is available on the Safe Church web page. To signup for the online course (which we recommend), scroll down the Safe Church page to Praesidium Academy Online Training to signup. Once you complete your training, you will need to email a copy of your certificate to Br. Mark at mark.jenkins@stmatmidlo.com
To begin the criminal background check process, use the button to access the Background Screening Consent Form.
