Acolytes:

We are the St. Mathias Acolytes! We lead the processions as cross bearers at the beginning, Gospel reading and recession at the end of service. Together with lighting and putting out the alter candles we assist the service celebrant at receiving the collection and setting the alter table for communion. We usually serve in rotation about once a month. If you'd like to join us, please contact Scott Vollmer at 757-508-9508.

Altar Guild

Andrea Larkin and Mary Evelyn Parker are organizers for Altar Guild.

Children's Liturgy

Teachers gather the children (aged 4 – 10) during the 8:30 am and 11:00 am services and conduct a “mini” church program during a segment of the church service.  We use the curriculum Celebrate the Good News: Children’s Chapelwhich offers prepared lessons and allows them to participate in a homily, pray together, and invites them to grow in their relationship with Christ and with others.  Kristen Ketron is the organizer for Children's Liturgy.

Flower Guild

Sue Baird and Kay Gray are the organizers.

Greeters

Greeters welcome our guests to both services each Sunday.  They stand with the ushers before and after each service and give a warm welcome to all of our guests and members.  At the end of each service the Greeters offer a Welcome bag with information about St. Matthias’ and a loaf of pumpkin bread to our guests.  The Greeters also have our guests complete a form with introductory information about themselves and their family.  Greeters serve from September through May at the service they attend.  During the summer the Greeters from both services serve at the 10:00 service.  Ellen Whitehead is the organizer, you can contact her here.

Healing Minister

Healing Ministers are available during each worship service to pray with parishioners of all ages for their own healing needs or the needs of their relatives or friends.  Training is available for anyone who wishes to become a Healing Minister.  Contact Marilynn Swenson  if you have any questions.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

St. Matthias’ Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are an important part of the parish’s Sunday services. LEMs read scriptural passages, psalms and Prayers of the People, and assist the Rector with Holy Eucharist. Young people in middle and high school are also welcome to serve as Youth Readers. Bill Ogelsby is the LEM coordinator and he can be emailed here.

Sound System Operator

Most of our church services are supported by a sound system operator. The system operator ensures that the congregation can clearly hear the service and music liturgy. The Sanctuary sound system is intended to support those of our community who require hearing assistance hearing the liturgy. Using the service bulletin as a guide, the operator controls the selection and volume level of the many microphones during the liturgy. The role of the sound system operator need not be an experienced audio engineer, but rather can be anyone who wishes to serve. Our lead sound system operator – Greg Moquin would be happy to train anyone wishing to serve.

Tellers

The teller ministry is responsible for the process of collection and the counting of all the monies that come into the church on a weekly basis.  Tellers record, copy and then deliver all received checks, currency and coin to our branch bank.  Charlie Gardner is the coordinator for our tellers and can be emailed here.

Ushers

Ushers at St. Matthias have numerous responsibilities, you can find the full list here.  Our ushers assist in maintaining proper church decorum, create a spirit of worship, reverence and friendliness in and about the church. Mark Paullin is our coordinator and you can email him here.
